Lifeguard
Job Description

 

 

General Responsibilities:

Serve as a lifeguard at the Global Youth Village pool. Help create a welcoming, safe recreation area for youth & staff. Uphold safety and hygiene standards as recommended by the local health department, American Red Cross and the American Camping Association.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Holds a current American Red Cross (or equivalent) lifeguard certificate
* Has maintained a high level of fitness since acquiring a lifeguard certificate.
* Is knowledgeable in all rescue techniques as recommended by the American Red Cross.
* Ability to uphold pool rules and problem solve/ discipline a group or individual appropriately
* Is First Aid & CPR certified if current lifeguard certificate does not included these skills.
* Ability to accept guidance and supervision, and seeks guidance when needed.
* Good character, integrity, and flexible.
* Fluent in English.

Responsible to: Pool Director

Specific Responsibilities:

* Lifeguarding duties as scheduled by the Staff Director
* Assist in the training of assistant lifeguards / lookouts
* Maintain safety standards at all times in the pool area.
* Maintain sanitation standards, conducting daily checks and ensuring logbooks are properly kept. (Complete and log daily hygiene & PH checks as assigned by Pool Director.)
* Monitor use of equipment and supplies. Ensure rescue equipment and first aid kit are readily accessible, in good repair and properly stocked. Identify maintenance needs and report them to administration.
* Communicate with administration and cabin staff as necessary regarding an individual youth's performance and/ or special needs.
* Clean and close down pool area at end of the season. Complete evaluations as a team, with recommendations for next season.

Essential Functions:

* Ability to effectively communicate with groups participating in pool activities, and to provide necessary instruction to youth's and/ or staff.
* Ability to communicate and train staff and youths in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
* Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other pool related hazards.
* Ability to observe youth behavior to assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and provide guidance and discipline.
