To plan and deliver the pottery component of the "Crossing Cultures
through the Arts" Workshop to youths ages 14-18. To translate knowledge
of subject matter into an effective, experiential form appropriate for
youth participants of varied cultures, consistent with principles and
philosophy of the Global Youth Village.
Minimum
Qualifications:

Training and experience in teaching the pottery (with wheel and hand
building) with varied size groups and age ranges.
*· Desire and ability to work with youth in an outdoor, residential
setting
*· Ability to operate a kiln in a safe manner
*· Ability to maintain equipment in safe, working condition
*· Ability to manage small to medium sized groups (5-12)
*· Ability to meet needs of individuals in group
*· Ability to adapt to teaching style during changing circumstances
*· Ability to inspire enthusiasm and participation
*· Able to create a harmonious group dynamic
*· Organized, able to plan daily content of activities
*· Ability to relate to one's peers

Responsible

Specific
Responsibilities:
1.
Lead pottery activities, including special, weekend and all-camp events.
2. Set up pottery studio during staff training.
3. Maintain standards of quality & safety in pottery studio.
4. Orient staff and youth as to standards of behavior in the pottery
studio.
5. Devise schedules and program outlines in coordination with the CCTA
Instructor within the Arts area. ("Electives" and "Special
Activities")
6. Plan and deliver specifics of day to day activities.
7. Teach and monitor proper uses of equipment and supplies; requisition
new supplies as needed, monitor budget/ expenditures.
8. Conduct daily checks and maintain order and cleanliness of pottery
studio.
9. Identify maintenance needs on facility and equipment, and report
to maintenance staff.
10. Communicate with administrative and cabin staff as necessary regarding
an individual youth's performance and/or special needs.
11. Clean and close down pottery studio at end of the summer, including
inventory and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
12. Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment,
supplies, and programming for the following summer.
Essential
Functions:

Ability to effectively communicate with groups participating (age and
skill level), and to provide necessary instruction to youths and/or
staff.
2. Ability to communicate and train staff and youths in safety regulations
and emergency procedures related to program area (i.e. kiln use).
3. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental
and other hazards related to program area.
4. Physical strength to provide for a safe activity.
5. Ability to observe youth behavior assesses appropriateness, enforce
appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and provide
appropriate guidance and discipline.
6. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring
first aid.
7. Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the program
area activities to achieve youth development objectives.
