Program Coordinator
Job Description

 

 

General Responsibility:
Oversees strategic areas of program delivery related to leadership development in youths, management of all-village discussions, cultural appreciation, community building and promoting a sense of vision for the future. Main responsibilities include meeting with key staff to design, monitor and adapt programming to meet youth needs, and assisting in the coordination and delivery of staff training.

Minimum Qualifications:
* College graduate with at least 2 years professional youth work and staff management experience, and at least 25 years of age
* Previous Global Youth Village experience, as a staff member, with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively based on knowledge of effective cross-cultural relations.
* Previous professional level administrative, programming or counseling experience with teens, preferably in a residential, camp setting.
* Previous experience developing and delivering training programs for adults.
* Demonstrates an understanding of the demands of working in a multi-cultural environment, and is able to apply Legacy's training principles in effective multi-cultural team building.
* Has proven team-leading experience. Able to effectively manage conflicts using a variety of communication styles.
* Ability to create a harmonious group dynamic within a variety of settings. * Ability to manage large groups.
* Flexible and open to approaching youth work from a variety of methods.
* Proven ability to effectively accept & offer feedback; ability to take initiative and seek/accept guidance as needed.
* Able to harmonize own personal style of instruction with Legacy's approaches.
* Ability to approach tasks creatively and flexibly, and to use existing circumstances as learning opportunities.
* Enthusiastic, self-motivated with high personal stamina. Good character, integrity, adaptability and self-reflective.
* Ability to inspire groups & individuals.
* Ability to observe staff facilitation techniques and their impact on the youths' learning.
* Possesses strength & endurance required to manage staff & youth in a residential camp.
* Ability to establish works priorities, respond to unanticipated needs & work under pressure.
* Ability to work effectively as a member of a team; ability to manage a team.
* Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control.

Responsible To: Global Youth Village Director

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Helps coordinate administrative staff in the planning and delivery of Staff Training.
2. Coordinates staff meetings, focusing on areas of improvement, program changes
3. Oversee all aspects of the Program Team
4. Designs and delivers key aspects of GYV experience: orientation days, Mid-program reflection, and end of session wrap up for youths, in conjunction with Program Team.
5. Meet with Program Team concerning ongoing development of event plans, and adjustments required to address overall program needs
6. Supervises the Special Programs Coordinator
7. Monitors youth group and personal dynamics with counseling staff, workshop instructors and Youth Director
8. Coordinate mid-session and end of season youth evaluations
9. Design key elements of evaluation process with staff at end of program
10. Encourage recognition of achievements
11. Facilitate critical situations
12. Assist and be available for all public relations outreach
13. Assist in the delivery of alumni weekends and visits
14. Evaluates program structure and activities at end of season, making recommendations for following summer

Essential Functions:
1. Ability to effectively communicate with youths and staff, and to provide necessary instruction, feedback, and training.
2. Ability to observe youth behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and provide appropriate guidance and discipline.
3. Ability to communicate to staff and youths the safety regulations and emergency procedures in case of an all-camp emergency.
4. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
5. Cognitive and communication abilities to manage large, complex event management.
6. Cognitive and communication abilities to manage complex tasks with large groups, to plan and conduct cabin unit activities, and coordinate counseling team.
7. Possesses strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of youth in a rural, residential camp setting.
8. Ability to operate essential office equipment needed to carry out responsibilities (i.e. telephone, computer, photocopy machine).
