Legacy International's Global Youth Village annually brings together over 50 young people (ages 13-18) and 20 staff from more than 15nations and cultures to its program site in Virginia, U.S.A. Experientially based programs focus on leadership development, global issues, environmental action, cross-cultural relations, conflict resolution, and the arts.

Working at Legacy is a unique opportunity for professionals, graduate and undergraduate students to gain experience and share knowledge in new ways. The low staff/youth ratio lends itself to personalized instruction and mentoring in a caring atmosphere. The year-round staff is composed of people with diverse talents, some of whom have worked in the field of cross-cultural relations for more than 20 years. Many seasonal staff are also professionals or graduate students, with 2-10 years experience in their fields, and typically range in age from 21-45. The expertise of the year-round staff, combined with carefully selected summer staff, creates a dynamic, cooperative learning community representing various abilities, experiences, and viewpoints.

"I am impressed by the mission and the scope of Legacy's work. There is such a tremendous outlook and impact on the people worked with, and I am glad to be a part of it. Most importantly, is the impact on the youth at the Global Youth Village. The knowledge the participants gain and the transformation they go through in such a short time is intense and impressive. My experience working with that age group had been primarily with international youth, and the U.S. participants at the GYV re-opened my eyes to the pressures and influences they face on a daily basis. They are so impressionable at that age, and education is key to creating a more peaceful society. I loved being a part of that."

- Jaimee Braun, Washington, U.S.; educator, conflict resolution trainer, ESOL instructor
