Voices from the Village

October 18, 2011

Youth at our international summer camp reflect on their  experience at the Global Youth Village. Arielle Korman, 16,  from New York City took the Crossing Cultures Through the Arts workshop this summer.  Jacob Trump, 16, from Northern Virginia took  the Green Your World workshop.  They both participated in the Dialogue and Peace Building workshop.  In this video, they reflect on what they learned and what they took away from their time at GYV.

Session B Ends

July 31, 2011

GYV Session B ended on Friday morning. Everyone was up bright and early to say good-bye. On Thursday night, we had our last sharing night (video coming soon!) and candlelight ceremony. There were lots of tears and everyone had a chance to reflect on what has been an amazing 11-day experience.  We still have 13 youth on campus who have signed up for a special Community Involvement Program which includes a lot of service work and a trip to Washington D.C. later on this week on Wednesday.  Here is our reflection video screened at the end of sharing night:

Folktale Night

July 21, 2011

We have many traditions at Global Youth Village international summer camp. Folktale Night is a long-time tradition and a popular part of our evening programs. Villagers are divided into small groups and are handed costumes and a written folktale. After just an hour, they are asked to act out the folktale for the rest of the Village. There usually a lot of laughter and everyone gets a chance to act a little silly and express their creativity. Folktale night emphasizes cooperation and everyone learns something. Check out this short video of The Story of Colors, a Mexican folktale.

New Friends from Around the World

July 20, 2011

Fifty more youth are now at Global Youth Village international summer camp for Session B! After a 48 hour break, the campus is buzzing again. So, what is it like to have new friends from around the world? Five participants take a shot at answering that question in this video:

Sharing Night!

July 19, 2011

Sharing Night is one of the many evening programs we have at Global Youth Village international summer camp. It is a long-time tradition that is part of our evening programs.  It usually occurs in the middle or the end of a session  and gives participants and staff the opportunity to  share their many hidden talents with each other.  Everyone has a great time, singing, dancing, acting etc. Check out the latest sharing night video:

Around the World Night

July 14, 2011

Every evening program at the Village offers something different. Tonight is Around the World Night at GYV.  All the participants have the opportunity to share various aspects of their culture.  Many chose to dance.  After the dancing on the stage, participants moved to the tent area where they shared photographs, artifacts, costumes, and instruments from their respective countries. Check out a short clip of the evening program:
