Maintain the operations of the GYV computer lab (computers, printers and internet access). Facilitates a youth project related to blogging on the GYV web site. Assist youths in researching & preparing visual presentations for cultural events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in basic computer maintenance procedures (i.e., loading software, Windows maintenance, disk fragmenting, hardware & software troubleshooting).
- Ability to establish procedures / rules and keep order to ensure computer lab and equipment are used in safe and respectful manner.
- Web design skills. Knowledge of Word Press and HTML is optional, but preferred.
- Knowledge of Mircosoft PowerPoint and creating digital multimedia presentations.
- Orderly, able to organize and handle multiple tasks at one time.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Desire and ability to work in a rural, camp setting.
- At least one-year professional work experience or post-secondary school education.
Responsible To: Outreach Coordinator
Specific Responsibilities:
- Schedule and conduct weekly computer maintenance tasks.
- Establish, maintain, communicate and enforce computer lab use guidelines
- Create a sign-up system for and monitor use of lab during daily e-mail times for youths.
- Create a sign-up system for the use of the computer lab by workshop groups, action teams, electives, and other needs for the lab by youths (i.e. research projects for cultural presentations)
- Monitor the use of equipment & supplies in computer lab; order equipment and supplies as needed.
- Assist youth in researching / preparing digital multimedia presentations for cultural events using PowerPoint and other software.
- Serve as tech person during cultural events, setting up and operating equipment needed for multimedia presentations. (LCD projector and computer)
- Facilitates a youth leadership project related to blogging on the GYV web site. Update GYV blog daily.
- Make sure the lab is properly shut down before impending thunder storms.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the lab throughout the summer.
- Identify problems with facility & equipment, reporting to supervisor as needed.
- Digital photo documentation for archives and future PR use. Upload photos to Flickr. Organize and archive.
- Clean lab at the end of the summer; includes inventory & storing of equipment & supplies.
- Provide an evaluation of lab use and policies at the end of the summer, with recommendations for ongoing development of the program.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to effectively communicate with youths and staff; to provide necessary instruction, and to convey and enforce computer use policies.
- Knowledge of basic webpage design.
- Visual & auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to area.
- Ability to operate essential office equipment needed to carry out responsibilities (i.e. telephone, computer, photocopy machine).
