General Responsibilities
Oversees strategic areas of program delivery related to leadership development in youths, team-building exercises, service, management of all-village discussions, daily “gathering “ times, and youth driven initiatives. Main responsibilities include supporting counseling and program staff with team building activities, youth inspired and coordinated activities. Establishes relationships with youths and ensures their needs and goals are being met. Starts the program with the correct tone by coordinating the participants’ arrival and orientation experiences. Maintains moral and keeps communication flowing among counseling and program staff. Meets regularly with counselors, workshop staff, and administrative staff to monitor and foster the young people’s experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- College graduate with at least 2 years professional youth work and staff management experience, and at least 25 years of age
- Demonstrated experience with service learning programming, team building games and exercises for groups of 20 or more.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively based on knowledge of effective cross-cultural relations.
- Previous professional level administrative, programming or counseling experience with teens, preferably in a residential, camp setting.
- Previous experience working with community service based organizations.
- Previous experience training others in the areas of: communication, group management, discussion facilitation, decision making, creative / critical thinking, public speaking, and problem solving. (Trainer or trainers experience preferred.)
- Previous Global Youth Village experience, as a participant or staff member strongly preferred.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the demands of working in a multi-cultural environment, and is able to apply Legacy’s training principles in effective multi-cultural team building
- Proven team-leading experience. Able to effectively manage conflicts using a variety of communication styles.
- Ability to create a harmonious group dynamic within a variety of settings. Ability to manage large groups.
- Flexible and open to approaching youth work from a variety of methods.
- Proven ability to effectively accept & offer feedback; ability to take initiative and seek/accept guidance as needed.
- Able to harmonize own personal style of instruction with Legacy’s approaches.
- Ability to approach tasks creatively and flexibly, and to use existing circumstances as learning opportunities.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated with high personal stamina. Good character, integrity, adaptability and self-reflective.
- Ability to inspire groups & individuals.
- Possesses strength & endurance required to manage staff & youth in a residential camp.
- Ability to establish works priorities, respond to unanticipated needs & work under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team; ability to manage a team.

Responsible to: Global Youth Village Director
Specific Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Administrative Team on the design and delivery of key aspects of GYV experience: orientation days, mid-program reflection, and end-of-session wrap-up for youths.
- Work closely with the administrative team and international chaperones to identify individual youth’s needs and goals.
- Draft all cabin, workshop and elective lists / assignments, taking into account youth needs and dynamics.
- Meet with staff concerning ongoing development of event plans, and adjustments required to address overall program needs
- Work with staff to maximize themes of teamwork, leadership & community action.
- Work with staff to design and facilitate all-Village discussions and other all-Village leadership (TLC) events (i.e. Dialogue Night, Egg Drop Challenge, Identity Exercise, morals/values exercise.)
- Communicate personal dynamics observed to Cabin Counselors and Workshop Instructors as needed.
- Monitor workshop participation and cabin integration for each youth.
- Monitor youth communications with family via telephone and e-mail.
- Offer inspiration on a daily basis. Attend various staff meetings as needed.
- Encourage recognition of achievements
- Offers low ropes course and/or other teambuilding activities for all group activities, smaller workshop and cabin groups.
- Communicate with the administrative staff regularly concerning youth issues & successes.
- Establish and maintain safe system for youths’ cash and other valuables in collaboration with Scheduling Coordinator
- Compile address lists and farewell alumni packets for distribution at the end of each session.
- Structure and conduct mid-session youth evaluations as needed. Conduct end-of-session evaluations (written) with youths.
- Evaluates program structure and activities at end of season, making recommendations for following summer
Essential Functions:
- Ability to effectively communicate with youths and staff, and to provide necessary instruction, feedback, and training.
- Ability to observe youth behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and provide appropriate guidance and discipline.
- Ability to communicate to staff and youths the safety regulations and emergency procedures in case of an all-camp emergency.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to area.
- Cognitive and communication abilities to manage complex tasks with large groups, to plan and conduct cabin unit activities, and coordinate counseling team.
- Possesses strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of youth in a rural, residential camp setting.
- Ability to operate essential office equipment needed to carry out responsibilities (i.e. telephone, computer, photocopy machine).
