“No matter how much time passes, no matter what takes place in the interim, there are some things we can never assign to oblivion, memories we can never rub away.”

-Haruki Murakami

When I first came to the Global Youth Village I did not know what to expect. The smiles of the people on the first day helped me adjust quickly; the diversity of the camp and the people in it  made me feel so comfortable and free; and being surrounded by nature and no electronics was so relaxing. For the first time in four years of living in the USA, I was able to be myself. GYV taught me to love myself for who I am and how to understand someone when both of you don’t agree on the same thing. I have learned about different cultures and religions that I didn’t understand before. Over a short period of time I was able to know so many people from all around the world. I know that the friendships that I made at Global Youth Village will stay for a long time. I have never smiled as much as I have at GYV, I have never met so many people with common interests as I have at GYV, I have never felt so comfortable and safe as I have at  the Global Youth Village.
