staff walking up the hillGiving and serving is at the heart of the Global Youth Village. The program, from its founding, was built by volunteer labor, with donated materials; through caring people lending their talents as counselors, cooks, nurses, carpenters, artists and trainers.  
Each year, the Global Youth Village attracts a number of people wishing to intern with GYV or help out as a volunteer.  (Read about Justin’s internship experience.)
Full Time Summer Internships: 
Must be available for the full summer season, and at least a rising college sophomore.  (Internship dates:  Jun 26 – August 8, 2019.)  Submitting a staff application is required. Only those people who are able to attend our staff training, and commit to both sessions will be considered. (Housing and meals provided in addition to a small stipend.  A modest travel allowance is also provided to those who live more then a day’s drive to GYV.)
Professional development options well suited for interns are available in:
  • Administration (Communications / Outreach)
  • Administration (Program Design and Logistics)
  • Culinary Arts / Food Service / Hospitality (Front and Back of “House”)
  • Health Care (Great for a US based nursing student or someone pursuing a career in public health.  No license required)
  • Education (sports or studio arts, or ESL assist if needed)

Fall, Winter & Spring Options:  
For those studying in the local region (Roanoke or  Lynchburg areas), Legacy International offers limited internships in the Fall, Winter and Spring for those able to commute to our Bedford office. If interested, please email ( your resume and a cover letter which addresses:

  3. Any specific requirements of your university or college for earning internship credit.

Earning Academic or Continuing Education Credit While Working at GYV  

Many staff have earned graduate or undergraduate credit for work at the Global Youth Village.  Legacy’s administrative staff will work with you and your academic adviser to design and monitor a learning program. Staff interested in pursuing credit are responsible for making arrangements with their institution and for paying any additional tuition. (This option is possible anyone working with Legacy, whether in a paid or volunteer role.)
