Join our campaign to raise funds for Global Youth Village (GYV) scholarships!

The Global Youth Village is committed to welcoming a diverse population of outstanding youth from around the world and across the United States. In fact, each summer, Legacy provides 80% of youth, mainly  from traditionally underrepresented populations, the necessary financial assistance to participate in GYV.  We rely on the generosity of our donors and our year-end campaign to make this possible.

Scholarship campaign:  Our goal is to raise $22,000 to bring teens from diverse communities to the the summer Global Youth Village program.

The typical cost of a two-week residential summer program is $1800.

Scholarship recipients represent a wide range of communities.  From the US, we bring youths of Native American backgrounds from the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations in Montana, recently immigrated students from the Boston area, youths from homogeneous communities, youths from rural communities in mid-America, and youths from urban areas to our peaceful country campus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.

What do all the scholarship recipients have in common?

They want to make a difference in their communities and GYV can help them build the critical leadership skills to do so.  Here is what scholarship applicants express

  • “Young people are the future. We make up 50% of the population. We will be the managers, bankers, educators, parents, lawyers, and doctors of tomorrow. I want to be well prepared for my role. The Global Youth Village is a program geared to give me hands-on experiences working with people of diverse backgrounds, discussing complex issues, working with adults, and exploring a culture which may be different from my own.”  Quarterback of the Loudon County High School football team.
  • “Unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse, violence, and crime are signs of hopelessness. Indifference is not an option in my mind. I hope to learn how to get young people involved in their communities and homes, so they see their value and take responsibility.”  Teen from Crow nation, Montana.
  • “The Global Youth Village places emphasis on cooperation and dialogue. I think these are important skills that I will always be able to access no matter what I choose to do in the future.” Teen  from Rochester New York.
  • “Racism and classism affect me every day.  I want to shift my mindset, believe in myself more and find those who will support me.  The Global Youth Village will link me to a worldwide network of teens who feel like me.”  Teen from London, UK.

Legacy International equips emerging leaders to transform their values and vision into sustainable success. Since 1979, the Global Youth Village has trained over 5,000 teens from 105 countries helping them develop community leadership skills. The Global Youth Village is Legacy International's flagship youth summer program and has been training young people to become true global citizens for the last 40 years.  Legacy was one of the very first organizations to initiate peace building and dialogue programs with youth from conflict areas, beginning with young Israelis and Palestinians in the 1980s, followed by youth from other conflict zones around the world (Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq, etc.). Fifty percent of our participants come from the U.S., through partnerships with local organizations supporting  young leaders striving to build cohesive communities.

The Global Youth Village is an important first step for engaging young leaders in a lifetime role as community builders.  Alumni have gone on to become innovators starting small businesses and employing friends and family, public health officials bringing good hygiene practices to rural communities, educators offering literacy training, social media experts combating on-line bullying, fair housing advocates bringing together stakeholders to build new housing, and doctors working for Operation Smile. The message all GYV alumni carry is to live a life with purpose and respect for others based on universal values.
